China's First Titanium Alloy Large Nozzle Thrust Chamber Was Successfully Tested, Greatly Reducing The Weight of The Rocket Engine

On May 8th, China Aerospace Science and Technology Group announced that on April 17th, the 7103 factory of the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology Group conducted a test run of the liquid oxygen kerosene engine after the secondary pump of China's new-generation manned launch vehicle. The test run started according to the scheduled procedure, the engine worked for 10 seconds, and the test run was a complete success.

According to reports, the engine in this test run adopts the first titanium alloy large nozzle thrust chamber newly developed in our country, which greatly reduces the weight of the engine. The assembly of the engine adopts the inverted assembly scheme. The feasibility of the titanium alloy nozzle scheme was successfully verified in this test run.

The new—generation manned launch vehicle secondary pump rear pendulum liquid oxygen kerosene engine develops titanium alloy nozzles on the basis of the existing engine thrust chamber to realize the effective connection between the copper-steel material system of the existing thrust chamber and the titanium-titanium structure, further reducing the weight of the engine, improving the thrust-to-mass ratio of the engine, and improving the effective carrying capacity of the rocket.

It is understood that our country is still studying a 25-ton expansion-cycle hydrogen-oxygen engine, which is currently the world's largest thrust expansion-cycle hydrogen-oxygen upper-stage engine. The thrust is 3 times that of our country's active upper-stage hydrogen-oxygen engine. Performance indicators such as specific impulse have been significantly improved, reaching the world's advanced level, and it is an iconic product of our country's transition from a large aerospace country to a powerful aerospace country.
